Jim Carrey is zooming toward a live-action feature adaptation of *The Jetsons*, the iconic animated series that first aired in 1962.
The renowned actor is currently in discussions to lead the project, which is being developed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Notable director Colin Trevorrow is attached to helm the film, while he and screenwriter Joe Epstein are in negotiations to craft the screenplay.
*The Jetsons*, a creation of Hanna-Barbera, features a futuristic family—including George Jetson, his wife Jane, their children, robotic housekeeper Rosie, and their pet dog Astro—living in a vibrant, high-tech world that has continued to resonate with audiences for decades.
This forthcoming live-action adaptation has experienced various phases of development over the years. Notably, *The Hollywood Reporter* reported back in 2003 that filmmaker Adam Shankman was once set to direct. Over the years, several other filmmakers, including Robert Rodriguez and Conrad Vernon, have been considered for the project.
In 2017, ABC attempted to revive the franchise with a live-action pilot overseen by executive producer Robert Zemeckis, but that project ultimately did not proceed to series.
Jim Carrey’s recent film appearances have largely been within the realms of family-friendly franchises, particularly his role as Dr. Robotnik in Paramount’s *Sonic the Hedgehog* series, with a reprisal in last year’s third installment. Outside of this, Carrey’s most recent dramatic project was *Dark Crimes*, which premiered at a festival in 2016.
Colin Trevorrow’s most recent contribution as a director was *Jurassic World Dominion*, released in 2022, while Epstein served as both showrunner and executive producer for HBO’s *The Idol*.
The report of Carrey’s involvement was first shared by *The Wrap*.
