Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the most viewed film in the platform’s history. This animated blockbuster registered an impressive 25.4 million views worldwide during the week of August 18-24, raising its overall total to 236 million views since its premiere on June 20, according to internal data from Netflix.
This remarkable performance allowed KPop Demon Hunters to eclipse the previous record held by Red Notice, placing it at the top of Netflix’s all-time rankings for English-language films. Netflix’s all-time top 10 is calculated based on the views accrued within a title’s initial 91 days of release.
The film’s rise to prominence coincided with a significant box office achievement, as it also claimed victory at the box office with the release of a sing-along version. Although Netflix has not officially disclosed box office figures, estimates suggest that the film generated between $17 million and $18 million over the weekend of August 22-24, surpassing the $15.4 million earned by Weapons.
KPop Demon Hunters follows the thrilling adventures of Huntrix, a three-member girl group committed to battling monsters from the underworld. Throughout the film, they face off against the Saja Boys, a newly formed K-pop boy group of demons intent on stealing fans’ souls and defeating Huntrix.
The film is also backed by a chart-topping soundtrack, with its lead single, “Golden,” reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Notably, Huntrix is recognized as the first girl group to achieve this milestone since Destiny’s Child in 2001. Additionally, the film currently boasts four songs in the top 10, including “Your Idol” at No. 4, “Soda Pop” at No. 5, and “How It’s Done” at No. 10.
Since its release, KPop Demon Hunters has demonstrated remarkable consistency in its performance on Netflix, maintaining over 22.7 million views weekly since its strong debut of 9.2 million views. In contrast, most Netflix original films tend to exit the top 10 within a month, highlighting the sustained appeal and uniqueness of this animated feature.
