Batman’s New Series Soars with Impressive Launch

Last updated:

Batman has officially embarked on a new ongoing series crafted by the talented writer Matt Fraction, artist Jorge Jiménez, colorist Tomeu Morey, and letterer Clayton Cowles, receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics alike. In their review of the inaugural issue, CBR commended the creative team’s debut, highlighting its seamless integration into the current DC Universe and the continuation of narratives from Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez’s previous run: “The whole issue really sings. This is a great start to the new run.” This enthusiastic reception has been echoed across numerous comic book platforms.

In a testament to its success, DC has reported that the first issue has completely sold out at distribution points, prompting the decision to proceed with a second printing of Batman #1. The new release will feature a selection of exciting covers.

The primary cover for the second printing will showcase a recolored Batman logo over Jorge Jiménez’s original artwork from the first issue. Additionally, Jiménez has designed an exclusive cardstock variant cover for this second printing, depicting a brooding Batman, his costume visibly damaged from battle.

Moreover, acclaimed artist Dan Mora is contributing two cardstock variant covers. One will feature an all-new illustration of Batman intermingled with his rogues’ gallery, while the second will present a striking foil variant of that same dynamic image.

Jorge Jiménez himself first announced this exciting update via his social media, expressing enthusiasm with a jubilant message: “BATMAN #1 IS OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT!, and DC is doing a second printing!! I can’t believe this flew by so fast; these weeks have been truly crazy. Honestly, thank you all so much! I’ll never forget your support for this series!”

Jiménez is no stranger to the Dark Knight, having served as a regular artist during James Tynion IV’s award-winning run as well as during Zdarsky’s recent acclaimed tenure. Alongside Dan Mora, Jiménez has established himself as a consistent presence at DC over the past decade, contributing to titles such as Superman, Earth 2: Society, Earth 2: World’s End, Justice League, and Super Sons.

With Batman #2 having its final order cut-off scheduled for next week, it is essential for fans to inform their local retailers if they wish to pre-order the second printing of Batman #1 by the final cut-off date this Monday.

The second printing of Batman #1 is set to hit stores on October 15th.
