Collectors and fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) franchise have reason to be optimistic with the recent announcement regarding the video game adaptation of the acclaimed comic series, The Last Ronin. After a previous partnership between THQ Nordic and Black Forest Games was put on hold, the project is now under the capable hands of PlatinumGames, a studio known for its high-quality titles.
What Is TMNT: The Last Ronin?
The Last Ronin is a seminal work in the TMNT universe, reminiscent of the tone and depth found in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. This remarkable comic represents the first collaborative effort in years from TMNT creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, who drew upon previously unused storylines from the 1980s AM Turtle Mania period.
Set in a dystopian future, The Last Ronin explores themes far darker than those typically associated with the franchise. In this narrative, three of the four Turtles have perished in battle against the Foot Clan, leaving only one survivor to confront Shredder’s grandson, Oroku Hiroto, and fulfill the legacy of the Turtles.
