Ryan Gosling is set to take center stage in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter.

Director Shawn Levy recently shared a glimpse of Gosling in costume via his Instagram account, capturing the actor alongside co-star Flynn Gray against the stunning backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea.

“Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea #Starfighter,” Levy captioned the image.

Disney has slated the film for release on May 28, 2027, a date announced during the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo earlier this year. While plot details remain under wraps, this standalone film is positioned approximately five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the latest entry in the franchise to hit theaters. Additionally, The Mandalorian & Grogu, a spinoff of the Disney+ series, will receive its theatrical release on May 22, 2026.

Joining Gosling in the cast are actors Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams, as detailed in prior announcements.

In a dialogue with fans during an April event, Gosling expressed enthusiasm about the script, stating, “The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

The screenplay, crafted by Jonathan Tropper, has been in development by Levy since 2022, with both Levy and Kathleen Kennedy serving as producers.

Levy’s recent successes include Disney’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine and Netflix’s The Adam Project. Gosling’s upcoming appearances will also feature in Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary next year.
