The Last Ronin is a seminal work in the TMNT universe, reminiscent of the tone and depth found in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. This remarkable comic represents the first collaborative effort in years from TMNT creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, who drew upon previously unused storylines from the 1980s AM Turtle Mania period.
Set in a dystopian future, The Last Ronin explores themes far darker than those typically associated with the franchise. In this narrative, three of the four Turtles have perished in battle against the Foot Clan, leaving only one survivor to confront Shredder’s grandson, Oroku Hiroto, and fulfill the legacy of the Turtles.
