Happy 42nd birthday, Transformers! On September 17, 1984, The Transformers animated series made its television debut with “More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1,” introducing a generation of viewers to the ongoing war between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons.
The opening chapter brought Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Starscream, Soundwave and the rest of the Cybertronian conflict to Earth, beginning an animated adventure that would help turn Transformers into one of the most enduring franchises in pop culture.
Four decades later, Transformers has expanded across animated series, blockbuster movies, comics, video games and, of course, countless generations of action figures and collectibles.
Back in 1984, who could have predicted just how much those robots in disguise would eventually affect our wallets as adults?
42 years later, we’re still transforming, collecting and making room for “just one more” figure.
Happy birthday, Transformers — More Than Meets the Eye since 1984.
