Joe Manganiello has unveiled new information about Ben Affleck’s canceled Batman solo movie, highlighting a significant confrontation with Deathstroke, a role for Batgirl, and an epic finale through the streets of Gotham City.
In his memoir, Bloodlines: A Memoir, Manganiello, who was set to portray Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, reflects on the abandoned project. The film was intended as a superhero thriller where Deathstroke aimed to dismantle Batman’s existence.
According to Manganiello, the plot involved Deathstroke invading the Batcave, kidnapping Alfred Pennyworth, and killing Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon. This narrative also featured Batgirl teaming up with Batman in a bid to thwart Deathstroke’s plans.
Moreover, the climax was envisioned as a “one-on-one showdown through the streets of Gotham,” promising an exhilarating end to the film.
Ultimately, Affleck’s Batman film did not come to fruition, and its development transitioned to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, featuring Robert Pattinson, which premiered in 2022.
Despite the project’s cancellation, Manganiello expressed his enthusiasm for Affleck’s vision. He noted, “It sounded good to me,” commending Affleck’s prior work and expressing eagerness to see his interpretation of the Dark Knight.
