While details about The Brave and the Bold remain limited, a fan has humorously claimed to have uncovered the identity of the actor portraying Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne. This so-called “leak” was promptly noticed by James Gunn.
Image via DC ComicsThe collaborative partnership between Rooker and Gunn began with the director’s 2006 debut in Slither, and Rooker has since appeared in all of Gunn’s films. His character in Peacemaker was a favor to Gunn, who humorously warned that the character would likely not survive beyond Season 2. In jest, Gunn told Rooker during Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, “We will not consider this as meaning that you can’t play another role in the DCU. This is how we tell you Rooker will be playing The Flash.”
As for The Brave and the Bold, it is still in the scripting phase according to Gunn, who encouraged fans to temper their expectations regarding Damian Wayne’s role in the film. “I think you have to wait to see the movie. Some things have changed,” he stated in an interview with IGN. He further elaborated on the fluid nature of Damian’s narrative, stating, “Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn’t take any of it – Yeah, I mean, the actor who wants to… Listen, first of all, I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman.”
This commentary has sparked further speculation regarding Damian’s origins within the DC Universe, as he is traditionally depicted as the biological son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul in the comics. However, Gunn may choose to modify this narrative to clarify Bruce’s character’s parental status. Additionally, The Brave and the Bold is expected to introduce various members of the Bat-Family, with Gunn already hinting at the inclusion of Catwoman, alongside Alfred Pennyworth, who is a confirmed presence in the DC Universe.
Gunn addressed his current priorities concerning DC, stating, “Batman‘s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it’s not — I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So outside of the stuff that I’m doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts.”
Batman: The Brave and the Bold is currently under development, and a release date has yet to be determined.
