In the latest trailer for Good Boy, released on Monday, we meet Indy, a loyal dog who, alongside his owner Todd (Shane Jensen), relocates to a seemingly serene yet haunted new home. As eerie forces spiral into their lives, Indy discovers a newfound bravery as he strives to protect Todd and their territory.
The trailer opens with heartwarming snapshots of Indy as a puppy, interspersed with affirming messages, including “man’s best friend,” “always by your side,” and “through the good times.” However, the mood shifts dramatically as the dog becomes alert to troubling sounds in the dead of night.
Eerie knocking pierces through the silence in the house, prompting Indy to investigate. As the ominous banging escalates—with an unseen presence rapping its forehead against a door—Indy responds with a fierce bark, alerting Todd to the peril. The trailer leaves viewers dangling on a cliffhanger as the footage abruptly cuts away.
Following this suspenseful moment, a flurry of chilling scenes showcases Todd’s grandfather (Larry Fessenden) unleashing a spine-chilling growl while Indy remains on high alert. The trailer flashes through rapid-fire clips of Indy navigating forests and vigilantly standing watch at night.
The official synopsis for Good Boy describes the film as follows: “Our canine hero, Indy, embarks on a new journey with his human owner and best friend, Todd, as they leave city life behind for a long-vacant family home in the countryside. From the outset, it is clear that Indy is cautious of the creepy old house, yet his loyalty to Todd remains unwavering.”
Good Boy marks the feature debut of director Ben Leonberg, who could not have chosen a more fitting lead actor than his own dog, Indy.
The cast also features Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin. The film made its debut at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year in March.
IFC Films is set to release the film in North American theaters on October 3, followed by a U.K. release on October 10.
