Dragon Ball Introduces New Goku Design, Setting the Stage for Upcoming Collectibles Surge

A fresh design for Super Saiyan Goku has been revealed ahead of a pivotal year for the Dragon Ball franchise, which is gearing up for a major celebration in 2026.

Dragon Ball Unveils New Goku Design Ahead of Major Milestone

The official Dragon Ball website has unveiled a striking new illustration of Super Saiyan Goku in anticipation of “Goku Day” on May 9, 2026. This announcement coincides with the half-anniversary of the official Dragon Ball Store, which recently opened at the First Avenue Tokyo Station in November 2025. This illustration will feature prominently on various products available on April 24, 2026, at the official Dragon Ball Store.

The timing of this reveal is particularly noteworthy as it precedes Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, scheduled for April 18-19, where new developments surrounding anticipated projects will be announced. These include Dragon Ball Super: Beerus and rumors of Dragon Ball Project: Age 1000, speculated to be Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3.

The newly designed Super Saiyan Goku will be featured on a collection of official merchandise set to be released at the Dragon Ball Store later in April, with offerings including shirts, keychains, tote bags, water bottles, mousepads, stickers, and related acrylic items that represent the character’s iconic legacy.

To enhance the shopping experience, the official Dragon Ball Store will host two special campaigns for attendees. Customers making any purchase will receive a luminous opalescent SSJ Goku bookmark. Additionally, fans can obtain a complimentary SSJ Goku postcard by posing with a Goku standee and sharing the photo on X (formerly Twitter) with a specified hashtag. Following verification of the post and store account follow, participants will be rewarded with the free postcard.

The positive reception of the new Super Saiyan Goku illustration marks a significant turnaround from the previous artwork that was criticized by fans for its lackluster quality. The initial designs for the Dragon Ball Store’s 40th anniversary were met with backlash due to poor linework and inconsistent anatomy, leading to claims of amateur artistry.

Kazuhiko Torishima, a former Shonen Jump Editor-in-Chief with a history of collaboration with the late Akira Toriyama, publicly addressed the disappointing artwork last December, suggesting it reflected poorly on the current leadership within the franchise.

The phased replacement of the earlier designs signifies that stakeholders at Shonen Jump and Capsule Corporation Tokyo have taken the constructive criticism from fans seriously, delivering a refined piece of art that aligns with the esteemed Dragon Ball legacy.

As these enhancements and updates unfold, they set the groundwork for a considerable resurgence of Dragon Ball in 2026 and beyond. The remastered release of Dragon Ball Super is expected to debut this fall, accompanied by the production of a new anime series titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol.

The Dragon Ball anime series and movies, including Dragon Ball Daima, are currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, while previous chapters of the Dragon Ball Super manga can be accessed digitally through the Viz Media and Manga Plus apps.
