Sony Pictures has acquired the live-action film rights to D’Orc, the bestselling comic book series from writer and illustrator Brett Bean, who is attached to adapt the property for the screen.
Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps. The original comic, published by Image Comics, combines swashbuckling humor with expansive magical mythology and memorable creatures in a grittier, action-driven fantasy adventure.
D’Orc debuted earlier this year and quickly became a commercial success. The first issue sold out before its release and has since reached its eighth printing, with subsequent issues also requiring multiple printings.
Bean is known for his work across comics and graphic novels. In addition to D’Orc, he created the Zoo Patrol Squad graphic novel series and the Muk ’n’ Honey series.
As of now, Sony has not announced a release date or additional creative details for the D’Orc adaptation.
