Cinemark and Lowe’s Team Up for National Popcorn Day: BYOBucket2

Date:

The upcoming collaboration between Cinemark and Lowe’s for National Popcorn Day 2026 highlights a creative intersection of consumer goods and movie marketing, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in the collectibles and retail sectors.

Cinemark is set to extend this year’s National Popcorn Day celebrations to two days, marking a significant enhancement over the previous single-day event. This year, moviegoers can bring their containers to enjoy vast amounts of popcorn for a minimal fee, specifically targeting DIY enthusiasts and collectors with familiar items from Lowe’s, the renowned home improvement retailer.

From January 18 to 19, 2026, attendees will be able to bring their own containers, filling them with up to 400 ounces of popcorn for just $5 plus tax. Notably, this includes a new opportunity for those who bring a 5-gallon Lowe’s bucket, which can hold approximately 650 ounces. This not only leverages the utility of the bucket but also appeals to nostalgia among collectors who appreciate functional collectibles.

Cinemark’s chief marketing and content officer, Wanda Gierhart Fearing, stated, “Last year’s Bring Your Own Bucket event reimagined what this holiday could be for all movie-popcorn lovers.” The integration of a well-known retailer like Lowe’s into a cinema promotion delivers an innovative experience that has the potential to create a new localized collectible aspect for fans.

This collaboration also reinforces the collectible value of items often considered mundane. Accumulating keepsakes from cinema experiences—such as special promotional items and buckets—can enhance the narrative of a collector’s journey. Additionally, Lowe’s bucket users will receive a coupon for future popcorn purchases, further linking the two brands while adding ongoing value for consumers beyond the initial event.

David Haywood, Cinemark’s senior VP of food and beverage, noted that popcorn is more than a snack; it’s instrumental in enhancing the cinematic experience, and they aim to celebrate that heritage during this extensive event.

For those without a container, standard popcorn buckets of various sizes will still be available at the same $5 price point. This ensures accessibility for casual cinema attendees while presenting an opportunity for those who cherish collecting unique and branded items.

Importantly, moviegoers are not required to purchase tickets to take advantage of this promotion, aligning with the growing trend of how consumers engage with the film industry outside traditional viewing experiences.

Jen Wilson, senior VP and chief marketing officer at Lowe’s, emphasized the value of their iconic blue bucket, stating, “It brings utility and delight wherever it goes.” This speaks to a larger trend in collectibles—items that serve a practical purpose while also being enjoyable resonate deeply with fans.

As collectors and brands intersect within the movie and retail landscape, this collaboration between Lowe’s and Cinemark could pave the way for future cross-promotional initiatives that captivate both cinema lovers and collectors alike, ultimately enriching the overall experience.
