Dynamite Entertainment is about to unveil a captivating new rendition of The Wizard of Oz, promising fresh insights for fans and collectors alike.
In collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, Dynamite Entertainment is set to release The Wizard of Oz: The Official Film Adaptation Graphic Novel. This project is spearheaded by Soo Lee, known for her work on Disney Villains: Maleficent and Thundercats: Cheetara, and is currently funded via a Kickstarter campaign that presents collectors with a host of exclusive items.
An array of special editions of The Wizard of Oz: The Official Film Adaptation Graphic Novel awaits backers, featuring variant covers by renowned artists such as Jae Lee, Eric Shanower, and the iconic Alex Ross. Additionally, lithograph prints of each cover along with signed editions of the prints and the graphic novel will be offered. Notably, one fortunate backer has the opportunity to win Jae Lee’s original cover art accompanied by a deluxe hardcover version of the book.
“I’m not reinventing the wheel, but I’m adding my interpretation to the history of this legendary story,” stated writer and artist Soo Lee. “With more pages at my disposal, I explored certain scenes in depth, integrating moments that were omitted from the original film. Fans may discover aspects of Dorothy and her companions’ relationships and emotions that weren’t previously highlighted!”
This Kickstarter launch coincides with the impressive box office performance of Wicked: For Good, which recently grossed over $750 million shortly after its November 22 release, despite receiving mixed critical reviews. This resurgence of interest in the Oz franchise solidifies the timing of the graphic novel’s debut, catering to a community eager for reinterpretations of familiar tales.
