Vampyre: A Costa Rican Folktale Combines Dracula Lore with Cultural Heritage

As the market continues to embrace diverse narratives in the graphic novel landscape, Ricardo Delgado’s Vampyre: A Costa Rican Folktale stands out by merging horror with Costa Rican culture, enriching the storytelling experience for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Vampyre: A Costa Rican Folktale Merges Dracula Fact and Fiction

Conceptual designer and comic book creator Ricardo Delgado previously captivated audiences with 2021’s Dracula of Transylvania, which redefined Bram Stoker’s legendary character as”a complete horror.” Now, Delgado extends his exploration of the Dracula mythos with his upcoming work, Vampyre: A Costa Rican Folktale.

With the crowdfunding campaign for Vampyre: A Costa Rican Folktale currently underway, an exclusive preview is being showcased by industry outlets. This upcoming illustrated novel spans 200 pages, richly filled with historical maps, Delgado’s intricate illustrations, and photographs of authentic Costa Rican locales.

Set in the 1940s, the narrative draws on the roots of local folklore while recounting a tale that places it in the familiar yet expanded universe of Dracula. The publication adopts a bilingual format, reflecting the cultural heritage it aims to preserve and present.

“Part folktale. Part autobiography. This gruesome novel is a captivating celebration of urban legends, horror stories, and the power they hold over us,” commented Hank Kanalz, Publisher of Clover Press. “Inspired by elements of the classic 1980’s illustrated novella Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King and Berni Wrightson, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Costa Rican folklore, Delgado weaves his family history into an ambitious new multi-media mythology that must be seen and read to be believed.”

The Kickstarter campaign for Vampyre: A Costa Rican Folktale is currently live, providing an opportunity for collectors and fans to support this unique integration of horror and heritage.
