In a significant addition to the collectibles market, fans of the Power Rangers and comic art can look forward to The Power Rangers Art of Dan Mora, an art book that encapsulates the transformative visual legacy of this timeless franchise.

Power Rangers Return in Stunning Art Book Fans Won’t Want to Miss

Fictional characters often experience shifts in their visual representation, yet collectors tend to associate them with a quintessential appearance. For many, the most recognizable version of the Power Rangers remains rooted in their television origins, unless, of course, we consider the exceptional artistry of Dan Mora.

Mora’s acclaimed illustrations are highlighted in the newly released volume, The Power Rangers Art of Dan Mora, co-published by BOOM! Studios and Penguin Random House. This 176-page hardcover book serves as a tribute to the artist’s pivotal role in revitalizing the visual identity of the Power Rangers within the comic book medium.

The book showcases full-page illustrations and offers a behind-the-scenes look at Mora’s character design process, alongside bonus materials that delve into his innovative approach to reimagining the iconic teenage heroes tasked with defending Earth from intergalactic threats.

According to the official book description, “The acclaimed visionary’s art in one stunning collection! From international bestsellers to superhero icons, Dan Mora’s dynamic artwork has captivated readers around the globe as one of the most sought-after artists in modern comics. His contributions to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series have redefined the visual identity of the franchise for a new generation. And now, this artbook gathers his most striking visuals from the series’ earliest conception–including full-page illustrations, character design process pages, and bonus material highlighting his creative approach to its iconic heroes and villains. Whether you’re a lifelong Power Rangers fan or a devoted Mora follower, this is the morphinominal collection you’ve been waiting for!”

The Power Rangers saga began with the launch of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1993, an adaptation of Japan’s Super Sentai series. This phenomenon not only birthed a beloved children’s TV series but also spawned a lucrative toy line, feature films, and an ongoing stream of reboots, including a new Power Rangers series in development for Disney+.

The franchise has maintained a foothold in the comic book sector nearly as long as it has in television, with Hamilton Comics releasing the first run of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1994 and Marvel subsequently acquiring the rights. The license eventually transitioned to BOOM! Studios in 2015, solidifying the company’s commitment to delivering innovative and engaging Power Rangers content.

Dan Mora’s work on the franchise began with the 2017 debut of Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers, a prequel that explores the Rangers’ lives outside of their heroic responsibilities. His collaboration with writer Ryan Parrott in this series laid the groundwork for further storytelling endeavors, including the introduction of unique elements like the Eltarian armor and the Omega Rangers, enriching the narrative landscape of the Power Rangers universe.

Mora also boasts a diverse portfolio beyond Power Rangers, contributing to acclaimed works like Batman/Superman: World’s Finest. Recently, DC unveiled a special variant cover for the upcoming Batman: Bad Seeds crossover event, further establishing Mora’s reputation as a leading artist in the comic realm.

The Power Rangers Art of Dan Mora is set to retail at $29.99 and will be available starting August 25, 2023. This publication serves not only as an art collection but also as a historical document charting the evolution of one of pop culture’s most enduring franchises.
