Summit Presents harkens back to the legacy of titles like Marvel Two-in-One, launching with a highlight on Juna Marris, the Summit Comics universe’s most powerful superabled character. The anthology will showcase a lead feature by writer Karla Medrano and artist Marcus Jimenez, alongside backup stories featuring the character Killstrike, designed and illustrated by Jimenez himself.

The first three issues of the Juna Marris feature will coalesce into a dedicated one-shot release in 2027 where she takes center stage. Medrano expressed her enthusiasm in Summit Comics’ press release, stating, “What a privilege to join such a powerful and relevant group of creatives! Summit Comics is doing what some publishers fail to do — invite a black woman to write for a black woman.”

Jimenez also expressed his deep connection to the characters, sharing, “I felt an overwhelming desire to draw Juna. The number one item on my bucket list is to draw Superman. Juna is probably the closest thing to that. She is the core of our universe and being the one to draw not only her first appearances but also her first story as a Summit Partner feels like a dream come true.”

Jimenez elaborated on his inspiration for Killstrike, noting, “Killstrike is based on the 90s archetype that spawned characters like Cable, who has never really been my kind of character. So being able to take this idea and approach it in an outside way with no real exposure to it, and take inspiration from so many other directions. While prepping for Killstrike, I read and took inspiration from Captain America, Darrow from Red Rising, and the stories of the Hispanic youth I grew up around. Killstrike is a love letter to them all.”

As previously noted, Killstrike will feature in the first two issues of Summit Presents, with the third issue serving as a prelude to Summit Comics’ inaugural major event. This event will uniquely unfold within a single issue of the flagship Summit: Pinnacle series, where Pinnacle #2 is set to introduce The Black Assembly.

Summit Comics shared insights on this upcoming event, emphasizing that it entails a gathering of heroes from the Summit Universe collaborating for the first time, united under Juna Marris to confront the enigmatic Black Assembly. Summit’s Chief Creative Adam Barnhardt is taking the reins as the event’s showrunner, coordinating ten interconnected narratives in Summit: Pinnacle #2, aptly titled Summit: Pinnacle – The Black Assembly. Barnhardt explained, “The Ashlo’thar is a sickness that invades many of Summit’s stories across our Year One slate, popping in ways you’d never expect. The Black Assembly is all about addressing that metaphorical elephant in the room, and snuffing it out for good.”

As the launch of this captivating new universe unfolds, collectors have a timely opportunity to participate in its foundation via the ongoing crowdfunding efforts. Be sure not to miss out on this developing narrative by visiting their crowdfunding page here.
