Skybound Entertainment Revives a Universal Classic with The Phantom of the Opera

Universal Monsters have significantly influenced entertainment, transcending film to inspire merchandise, collectibles, and comics.

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have confirmed an ambitious reimagining of Phantom of the Opera as a new comic series led by Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds. This upcoming series marks Simmonds’ return to the Universal Monsters franchise, following his previous work on Universal Monsters: Dracula. Fans can anticipate this innovative interpretation of the classic tale, which is set to be available in comic book shops starting February 2026.

In their recent press announcement, Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics elaborated on what awaits fans of The Phantom of the Opera. The provided synopsis states, “Deep beneath the grand chandelier, the music stirs once more. Boss and Simmonds bring you a horrifying new vision of the story you only think you know!” This fresh approach promises a chilling twist on the well-established narrative.

According to the press release, “A young soprano, Christine, finds her career in chaos after a series of violent crimes plagues the Paris Opera House. But the show must go on, and Christine will discover that no one—especially the mysterious voice whispering from the eaves—is what they seem. As an old friend returns to investigate these surprising attacks, Christine will uncover her connection to the truth and the man known as…THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. This series is designed to thrill fans, both long-time and new, with a twist no one sees coming!”

As they gear up for the new comic’s release, the creative team has shared insights into their vision. Tyler Boss noted, “What separates the Phantom of the Opera from the other Universal Monsters is that it’s the only ghost story of the lot. With the Paris Opera House as our haunted site, and a production of Faust about to be performed, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect collaborator to breathe life into the Phantom of the Opera than Martin Simmonds.”

Martin Simmonds echoed this enthusiasm, expressing excitement about returning to the realm of the Universal Monsters. He stated, “There’s no better setting for our supernatural horror story than the beautiful architecture of the Paris Opera House and the streets of early 20th Century Paris.”

The Phantom of the Opera is scheduled for release in February 2026, and its impending arrival signals an exciting opportunity for collectors and fans to add a modern twist on a timeless classic to their collections.
