Gal Gadot’s time as Wonder Woman appears to have reached its natural conclusion, with the actress revealing that even if the opportunity to make Wonder Woman 3 came back around, she isn’t sure she would accept it.
During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot reflected on her decade-long association with Diana Prince and explained that her priorities have changed considerably since she first put on the iconic armor.
“For me to go to do another Wonder Woman, I am not sure I would at this point in my life with four children and different schools and all of that,” Gadot said. “To check out from all of them for such a long period of time, it doesn’t work for my life anymore at this point.”
Gadot first appeared as Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before taking center stage in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman in 2017. The film became a massive success, earning more than $820 million worldwide and establishing Gadot’s Diana Prince as one of the defining characters of the DC Extended Universe. She subsequently appeared in Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and made additional appearances as the character.
Plans were once underway for Gadot and Jenkins to reunite for a third solo film, but the project was ultimately abandoned as James Gunn and Peter Safran began restructuring DC Studios and developing a new interconnected DC Universe.
Interestingly, Gadot revealed that she had initially been told that a third film would still be developed with her. However, after watching how the transition affected others associated with the previous DC era, including Henry Cavill and Patty Jenkins, she sensed where things were heading.Despite the complicated ending, Gadot doesn’t appear bitter about leaving Themyscira behind. Instead, she expressed gratitude for being entrusted with one of comic books’ most recognizable superheroes.
“I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to wear these boots, and to have the character be so celebrated,” Gadot said, adding that she hopes whoever becomes the next Wonder Woman approaches the role with respect because of what the character represents to generations of fans. “It was never mine. I was always just a vessel.
”That perspective may ultimately be the most fitting way for Gadot to close this chapter. Wonder Woman existed long before any single actress stepped into the role, and Diana Prince will undoubtedly continue as DC Studios moves forward with its new universe.
But for an entire generation of moviegoers, Gal Gadot will remain an important part of Wonder Woman’s history. From her dramatic entrance against Doomsday in Batman v Superman to the No Man’s Land sequence in Wonder Woman, Gadot helped bring the Amazon warrior back to the forefront of mainstream pop culture.
Whoever inherits the bracelets, tiara and Lasso of Truth next will have some very big boots to fill.
