It has been 24 years since the crew of the Starship Voyager completed their compelling seven-season mission in the beloved series, Star Trek: Voyager. Their original goal was to return to Federation space after being stranded for years in the distant Delta Quadrant. Now, fans will finally discover what lies ahead for the crew post-return in a new series titled Star Trek: Voyager – Homecoming, crafted by the talented married writing duo of Susan and Tilly Bridges, with stunning artwork by Ángel Hernández.

During the recent Comic-Con International in San Diego, CBR’s Sean O’Connell engaged in discussions with the writing team at IDW’s Star Trek, where the Bridges elaborated on the significance of the series title, Star Trek: Voyager – Homecoming, emphasizing the multifaceted concept of what “home” truly means.
When O’Connell inquired about the notion of “home,” Tilly Bridges explained, “Of course, there’s the surface, ‘We need to get home.’ It’s been the whole point of the show. We need to get these people back home. It’s Janeway’s entire mission.” For years, the crew’s singular goal was achieving a safe return. However, Bridges insightfully suggests that after spending an extended period together, their perception of “home” could evolve. “But I think in another way — I think this is true of all Star Trek casts, but I think especially on Voyager, they are each other’s home, that family they have together. And so there is a little bit of melancholy to it because you don’t know what’s going to happen after this. They’re probably going to get different assignments. They’re probably going to split up. They’re not going to be the same crew on the same ship. And so there’s a finality to that. It undercuts things a bit. They’re so happy to get home, but it also means the possibility of losing the people they’ve been with,” Bridges remarked.
In essence, Marvin Gaye’s poignant lyrics resonate here: “Wherever I lay my hat, that’s my home.” For the crew of Voyager, the ship indeed became their home, with their fellow shipmates emerging as family, and now that cherished family is poised to fragment.
While many Voyager crew members are eager to reunite with their families and return to their former lives, others, such as The Doctor and Seven of Nine, will struggle to reintegrate into Earth’s society.
Yet, as indicated in the solicitation for the series, the reunion will not unfold as smoothly as anticipated. Insights from the first two issues reveal that the journey home will not be straightforward. The initial issue’s solicitation states, “Everyone is looking forward to reuniting with their friends and family after the crucibles they’ve faced—but there is a deadly secret in store, one that takes the crew far from home. Voyager delves back into the breach, with all aboard determined to return to their loved ones no matter the cost, even if there are dire consequences.”
The solicitation for the second issue elaborates further, explaining, “Moments before returning to Earth, the crew of Voyager are betrayed by insurgents hidden on board! With her ship’s deflector dish broken and control of the vessel slipping away, Janeway must convince the aliens that Starfleet means them no harm if she hopes to bring her found family home safely.”
