The official solicitation for Tomb Raider: Sacred Artifacts from Dark Horse Comics states: “Adventurer, archaeologist, socialite, survivor, legend. Lara Croft’s life is anything but boring! She’s survived a shipwreck, betrayal, ancient traps, prophecies, and paparazzi. When Croft Manor goes up in flames, it forces Lara to take stock of her life and figure out what is important to her. But a confrontation with a mysterious foe who has gotten their hands on a dangerous and familiar artifact launches Lara into a cross-continental journey, doing what she does best: raiding tombs and questing for legendary relics.”

Since her debut in Core Design and Eidos Interactive’s original Tomb Raider video game in 1996, Lara Croft has secured her status as an iconic figure in the world of pop culture, embodying the archetype of the formidable archaeologist-adventurer. The Tomb Raider franchise has expanded over the years, featuring more than two dozen video game titles, along with three films, two animated series, and a plethora of comics, novels, and associated merchandise. The most recent major release was Netflix’s animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which is poised to enter its second and final season.

As the animated series nears its conclusion, Prime Video is gearing up for the live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider. This new series will feature Game of Thrones and X-Men: Apocalypse star Sophie Turner portraying Lara Croft, while Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge takes on multiple roles as writer, director, and executive producer. Additionally, Waller-Bridge will co-showrun the series alongside fellow executive producer Chad Hodge. In a statement announcing the project’s development, Waller-Bridge expressed enthusiasm: “I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team. It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming…”

Tomb Raider: Sacred Artifacts #1 will be available for purchase on January 14, 2026, from Dark Horse Comics.
