The forthcoming release of the sequel to the iconic crime thriller Lords of War presents a noteworthy development for collectors and enthusiasts of film memorabilia. Vertical has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the sequel, which is scheduled for theatrical release in 2027. The film, directed and written by Andrew Niccol, sees the return of Nicolas Cage as the notorious arms dealer Yuri Orlov.
In this anticipated follow-up, Orlov discovers he has a son, Anton (played by Bill Skarsgard), who is embarking on creating his own mercenary army that rivals his father’s legacy. This dynamic introduces a compelling father-son rivalry, set against the background of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, which is likely to resonate with audiences and collectors alike.
The production, which recently concluded filming in Morocco, is backed by Vendôme Pictures and features additional cast members such as Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis. Collectors may find value in memorabilia and merchandise associated with the film, which will likely become items of interest given the franchise’s storied history and Nicolas Cage’s enduring popularity.
Vendôme Pictures has facilitated the production alongside CAA Media Finance, and the film’s international sales will be managed by FilmNation Entertainment. Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi, producers of the original film, return for this new chapter, which promises to explore the more complex facets of its central characters.
Andrew Niccol expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “As a storyteller, I always felt there was so much more to explore with the ‘merchant of death’ that is Nicolas Cage’s charming devil, Yuri Orlov. This latest chapter gave me the chance to introduce his ultimate rival: his illegitimate son, Anton — illegitimate in every sense of the word — played by the equally roguish Bill Skarsgard. Set against the largely unseen world of mercenaries, the film quickly reveals that Anton isn’t out to right his father’s wrongs; he’s out to top them.”
As industry viewers await more details, Vertical is poised to showcase footage during CinemaCon, aiming to generate interest among exhibitors. Collectors should keep an eye on potential merchandising and collectible opportunities that may arise as promotional materials and figures related to the film hit the market.
