The Compton Comics Expo is on the verge of making history, but with just days remaining, the community is being called upon to help save this groundbreaking event.
For the first time ever, a comics convention is coming to Compton, California, bringing together comic book creators, artists, cosplayers, collectors, and fans to celebrate creativity, storytelling, and the culture that connects us all.
Born from a community of creators who wanted a convention they could call their own, the Compton Comics Expo represents something bigger than another weekend of comics and collectibles. It’s about opportunity, representation, and bringing the excitement of comic book culture directly into a community that deserves to be part of it.
Unfortunately, this historic celebration is now facing a serious financial obstacle that could prevent it from happening.
$8,000 Stands Between Compton and Comic Book History
According to organizers, the Compton Comics Expo must raise $8,000 by Friday, October 23, 2026, to cover mandatory expenses required by Compton College, including staffing, security, parking passes, and equipment.
Despite organizers already investing considerable personal funds and working with the venue to reduce expenses, the remaining balance must be paid to secure the event.
If the funding isn’t secured, the venue could cancel the contract, potentially shutting down the entire convention before it ever opens its doors.
The good news? The GoFundMe campaign has already reached 48% of its goal! That means supporters have already demonstrated their belief in this event. Now it’s time for the rest of the comic book and collecting community to help carry it across the finish line.

We Support the Biggest Conventions. Why Not the Communities That Built This Culture?
Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention in our industry.
Every year, collectors and fans spend hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars attending massive events like San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con. We purchase expensive tickets, book hotels, travel across the country, and spend countless dollars supporting the biggest names in comics, toys, entertainment, and pop culture.
And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But somewhere along the way, have we forgotten where our love for this culture began?
For many of us, it wasn’t inside a massive convention center surrounded by Hollywood studios and multimillion-dollar corporations.
It was at a neighborhood comic book shop. A small local convention. A community gathering where we met our first comic book artist, discovered an independent creator, or found people who shared our passion for superheroes, science fiction, and storytelling.
Those smaller events helped build the very culture that today’s massive conventions celebrate.
The Compton Comics Expo is an opportunity to give that experience to another generation.
It’s a chance for a young aspiring artist to meet someone who inspires them. For an independent creator to introduce their work to a new audience. For families to experience the excitement of comic book culture without having to travel to one of the industry’s massive conventions.
And perhaps most importantly, it’s an opportunity for Compton to create something that belongs to its own community.
Let’s Champion Something Worth Believing In
Here at Plastiq News, we spend countless hours covering the latest action figures, collectibles, comic books, conventions, and entertainment news.
We celebrate the major announcements, the blockbuster franchises, and the companies that shape our hobbies.
But supporting this industry should mean more than purchasing the next exclusive action figure or attending the biggest convention.
It should also mean supporting the people and communities working to keep this culture alive and accessible.
The Compton Comics Expo isn’t asking fans to purchase another collectible. It’s asking for help creating an experience that could inspire future artists, writers, entrepreneurs, and lifelong fans.
You don’t need to donate hundreds of dollars to make a difference.
Whether it’s $5, $10, $20, or whatever you can comfortably contribute, every donation helps bring this event closer to becoming a reality.
And if you can’t donate, sharing the fundraiser with fellow collectors, comic book enthusiasts, creators, and friends can be just as important.

Let’s help make it happen.
