In an exciting development for fans of the beloved musical franchise, Colman Domingo has joined the cast of Wicked: For Good, stepping into the iconic role of the Cowardly Lion. The announcement came via the movie’s and Domingo’s social media channels on Monday, following a teaser from director Jon M. Chu hinting at a major actor joining the cast.

Joining Domingo are noted talents Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who will portray Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda the Good Witch, respectively.

The Cowardly Lion marks one of several new characters introduced in Wicked: For Good, intertwining with the classic narrative of The Wizard of Oz. The appearances of other fan-favorite characters such as the Tin Man and the Scarecrow have also been hinted at in recent teasers. However, casting announcements for these roles have yet to be made.

Incorporating elements from the original Broadway musical, this sequel promises to bridge storylines from the 1939 film, allowing for interactions between Elphaba, Glinda, and the beloved quartet from the classic tale.

Completing this star-studded cast are Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Both Erivo and Grande received Oscar nominations for their portrayals in the first installment of the film, which earned 10 Academy Awards nominations overall, resulting in two wins.

Wicked: For Good is scheduled for theatrical release on November 21, continuing the story initiated in the first film.
