The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) has revealed its 2026 honorees for the prestigious ABFF Honors awards ceremony, spotlighting a pivotal moment in the recognition of creative excellence within the film industry, particularly for collectibles and media that celebrate diverse narratives.

This year, the ceremony will honor the outstanding creative team behind the film Sinners, including acclaimed writer, director, and producer Ryan Coogler, producer Zinzi Coogler, and producer Sev Ohanian. The film, which stars Michael B. Jordan, also boasts contributions from notable talents like cinematographer Autumn Durald, costume designer Ruth E. Carter, and production designer Hannah Beachler.
In addition to the team behind Sinners, special awards will be presented to celebrated figures such as Jennifer Hudson, who will receive the Renaissance Award for her remarkable work as the host of The Jennifer Hudson Show; director and executive producer Salli Richardson-Whitfield, who will be awarded the Evolution Award; and actor Damson Idris, who is receiving the Horizon Award for his promising contributions to the field.
“This year’s honorees each represent the spirit of what ABFF stands for — creativity, excellence, and purpose,” stated Jeff Friday, CEO and president of Nice Crowd, which presents the ABFF Honors. “Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian have redefined the power of collaboration and vision with Sinners, creating something that speaks to our shared humanity while pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. Jennifer Hudson continues to inspire with her extraordinary talent and authenticity; Salli Richardson-Whitfield has evolved into one of the most dynamic directors and executive producers working in television today; and Damson Idris embodies the brilliance and promise of a new generation. We’re honored to celebrate each of them — artists who remind us why we tell stories: to inspire, to uplift and to move the culture forward.”
The 2026 ABFF Honors will occur on February 16 at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, hosted by author and comedian KevOnStage. The ABFF Honors gala is an integral part of the American Black Film Festival, which has been a champion for Black storytelling since its inception by Jeff Friday in 1997. It stands as a leading platform for showcasing the creativity and contributions of Black artists, emphasizing their rightful place alongside industry counterparts.
The ABFF Honors are executive produced by Jeff Friday, Nicole Friday (NICE CROWD), and Rikki Hughes (Magic Lemonade) in collaboration with dePasse Jones Entertainment.
