In an exciting development for DC fans, Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis have been officially cast as Mister Miracle and Big Barda, respectively, in the upcoming DC Universe animated series Mister Miracle. This news comes directly from James Gunn via social media, confirming that the series is an adult animated adaptation of the critically acclaimed and Eisner Award-winning 12-issue comic book run by Tom King and Mitch Gerads.
Tom King will serve as the showrunner and has personally penned all eight episodes. He is heavily involved in the recording and editing process alongside Mitch Gerads, the original artist for the comic.
In line with DC Studios’ unified DCU strategy, both actors’ physical likenesses are being integrated into the animation. This approach prepares them for potential live-action roles in the future.
Series Overview
The eight-episode series revolves around Scott Free (Mister Miracle), recognized as the universe’s greatest escape artist, and his formidable warrior wife, Big Barda. Together, they strive to build a normal life on Earth while dealing with past traumas and navigating a cosmic war between New Genesis and Apokolips.
Nathan Fillion will also reprise his DCU role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the series.
Expected Release
Season 1 is currently deep in development, with all episodes now in animatics. Fans can anticipate its debut on Max, targeting a 2028 release.
