Godzilla is officially entering R-rated territory.Godzilla Minus Zero has officially received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association, marking the first R-rated film in the history of the Godzilla franchise.
The film received the rating for “some violent content/bloody images,” immediately raising questions about just how intense director Takashi Yamazaki plans to make his follow-up to Godzilla Minus One.
The specific reason behind the rating is particularly interesting. While giant-monster destruction has been a staple of Godzilla for decades, the mention of bloody imagery could suggest that some of the movie’s more graphic material involves its human characters. For now, however, exactly what pushes Minus Zero into R-rated territory remains to be seen.
Godzilla Minus Zero continues the story two years after Godzilla Minus One and arrives in North American theaters November 6, 2026.
