Creative leads for this year’s Hollywood and Orlando events have provided insights into what attendees can expect from some of this year’s most anticipated horror productions.

Each year, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood elevate the standard of what a seasonal after-hours event can entail. Mike Aiello, creative director for HHN at Universal Orlando Resort, emphasized that this year’s focus is on amplifying scares throughout the park while introducing new event experiences, such as roaming zombie carhops and a DJ dance zone.

“There’s always something for everybody at the event, and I believe this year encapsulates that with a wide variety of content—ranging from intellectual properties (IP) to original house concepts, all connected through our Scare Zone program,” Aiello stated.

Lora Sauls, assistant director of creative development and entertainment for UOR, noted, “We’re enhancing all locations that previously had a moment to breathe by incorporating more characters, haunting effects, and immersive lighting throughout the entire park. For instance, in the ‘Cat Lady of Cricket Lane’ scare zone, you’ll traverse Central Park, witnessing the cat lady’s house and more unexpected scares.”

Fallout House

The first house revealed for this year’s offerings partners with the Fallout team and Amazon’s Prime Video. The collaboration has allowed the teams to utilize assets, including 3D models of characters, to faithfully recreate the series’ universe. Sauls mentioned that exclusive teasers were also produced to assist with the house’s development.

The experience promises a montage structure, contrasting with last year’s The Last of Us, allowing guests to jump between various environments while maintaining a narrative thread. Expect sights reminiscent of Philadelphia and thrilling encounters with iconic character The Ghoul amidst vast scenes reflective of the series.

Terrifier House

Development on this house began well in advance of the anticipated Terrifier 3, focusing on creating an overwhelming sensory experience. “This house incorporates a myriad of smells and dramatic effects that aim to envelop guests in a relentless ‘symphony of blood’,” shared Murdy.

Sauls cautioned attendees of the Orlando experience to prepare for potential wetness, stating their traditional drip lines will be opened fully for a more immersive water effect, adding a heightened scare factor to the encounter.

Five Nights at Freddy’s House

This year marks the introduction of full-scale animatronics based on the popular franchise. Murdy emphasized the collaboration with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop led to the creation of the most intricate animatronics ever designed for the Halloween Horror Nights, with various character representations to enhance the experience.

Attendees will meander through the pizzeria’s environments, experiencing iconic locations such as the catering area and security room, and encountering spooky intertwining narratives related to the ghostly children linked with the animatronics.

WWE Presents: The Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks House

Originating from a creative concept aligned with WWE’s Wyatt Six, this attraction immerses visitors in a haunted house narrative closely resembling a WWE live show’s backstage chaos. Orlando will showcase elements from The Fiend’s influence while Hollywood iterates this experience with an atmospheric swamp setting featuring fireflies.

Friday the 13th House

In partnership with Horror Inc. and the Thirteen Hole group, both coasts will present a house commemorating the 40th anniversary of Friday the 13th. Guests will journey through Camp Crystal Lake, encountering various iconic elements from the franchise’s lore.

Poltergeist and Blumhouse 15th Anniversary Terror Tram

Universal Studios Hollywood is set to revive the interactive experience of Poltergeist alongside a fresh Blumhouse-themed Terror Tram. The tram will feature familiar horror faces and narrate a journey through multisensory horror landscapes.

With these innovative experiences, Halloween Horror Nights promises to secure its reputation as a premier destination for horror enthusiasts. Each year significantly raises the bar, ensuring that visitors remain captivated and engaged by these thrilling attractions.
