A sequel to New Line’s The Curse of La Llorona is finally on the move.

Jay Hernandez, known for his role in the acclaimed series *Magnum P.I.*, is spearheading the cast alongside Monica Raymund, prominent for her performance in *Chicago Fire*. Titled The Revenge of La Llorona, the film also features rising talents Edy Ganem (*9-1-1*), Martín Fajardo (*Griselda*), Acston Luca Porto (*Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado*), and Avie Porto (*Bob Hearts Abishola*).

Returning to the franchise is Raymond Cruz, who portrayed a curandero in the 2019 film. Production has commenced this week in Buffalo, marking an exciting resurgence for the project.

Alongside Cruz, the creative team behind the film includes producers Emile Gladstone, Gary Dauberman, and James Wan. While the producers remain consistent, the film adopts a fresh narrative vision with Santiago Menghini at the helm as director. Menghini is renowned for his award-winning short film *Milk* and made his feature debut with 2021’s *No One Gets Out Alive*.

Sean Tretta, who collaborated with Wan on the upcoming *Creature from the Black Lagoon*, has penned the screenplay for this eagerly awaited sequel.

The commencement of filming represents a significant revival for a sequel that faced multiple delays, including a pre-production halt in early 2024 due to budgetary concerns. The original *La Llorona* caught the spotlight upon its 2019 release, grossing an impressive $123 million globally, featuring Linda Cardellini and directed by Michael Chaves, who subsequently directed entries in the successful *The Conjuring* franchise that has collectively earned over $460 million worldwide against a modest budget.

Latino audiences have undeniably embraced the horror genre, with *The Revenge of La Llorona* poised to resonate intensely with this demographic.

The storyline entails the vengeful spirit La Llorona resurfacing, compelling a fractured family to confront their tumultuous past and enlist the help of their estranged curandero grandfather in combating ancient forces, before the Weeping Woman seizes their children forever.

Menghini is represented by UTA, Good Fear, and Mike Castrillo at McKuin Frankel, while Tretta is represented by CAA, Adventure Media, and attorney Jennifer Levy. Cruz is represented by Media Artists Group; Raymund is with Gersh and Door 24; and Hernandez is with CAA, Alchemy Entertainment, and Fuller Law. Fajardo is repped by Magnitude Entertainment and CESD, with siblings Acston Luca Porto and Avie Porto represented by Coast to Coast Talent Group, D.R. Entertainment, and attorney Carolyn Conrad. Ganem is with Prime Talent Media, Allegory Creative Talent, and Yorn Levine.

With its engaging story and robust talent lineup, *The Revenge of La Llorona* is shaping up to be a thrilling addition to the horror landscape.
