Ben Affleck and Matt Damon make an unexpected discovery in the teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix action thriller The Rip.

Writer-director Joe Carnahan‘s crime feature is set to premiere on January 16, 2026. The cast also features notable talents such as Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler.

Inspired by true events, The Rip revolves around a team of Miami police officers who unexpectedly uncover millions in cash during a raid on a stash house. As the authorities come to grips with the shocking amount of money discovered, tensions rise and alliances are tested.

In the trailer, Calle’s character ominously advises, “You should just take whatever money you want and walk away before this goes really bad for all of us.” This sets the tone for the chaotic dynamics explored in the film.

In another segment from the footage, Damon poses a question about the seized money, “Do you think I’m gonna jack this rip?” This prompts Affleck’s character to retort, “I don’t trust you right now, and that’s a fucking problem.” The palpable tension evident in the trailer hints at the dramatic narrative to unfold.

Carnahan (Shadow Force) directs the film based on his own script, collaborating with Michael McGrale, who contributed to the story. The project is produced by Affleck, Damon, Dani Bernfeld, and Luciana Damon, marking the inaugural partnership between Netflix and Artists Equity, the production company founded by Affleck and Damon.

According to Damon, “Our goal is always to just make movies that we think we’ll like, which is really the same calculus we use in our own careers as actors. It kind of drives our creative team crazy, because they’re like, ‘What are we looking for?’ And we always just go, A good movie.”
