Marvel Comics is set to launch the Ultimate Hawkeye in an electrifying one-shot that promises thrills and surprises.
According to a press release from Marvel Comics, the Ultimate Hawkeye is poised to take center stage in their standalone title, but the real spectacle may lie in the highly anticipated arrival of the infamous Ronin in the Ultimate Universe. Whether this character will be Charli Hawks Eye or another identity remains to be unveiled. The upcoming Ultimate Hawkeye one-shot is being crafted by writers Taboo and B. Earl, complemented by the artistic talents of Michael Sta. Maria, and includes a framing narrative by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri from The Ultimates. Fans can look forward to the first issue, set to hit comic book store shelves on September 24, which will feature a selection of intriguing variant covers showcased below, alongside some uncolored interior artwork.
The Ronin mantle was first assumed by Maya Lopez, widely known as Echo, in New Avengers #11 (2005) by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch. Despite the short duration of her tenure as Ronin, Maya solidified the character’s menacing reputation, which was later adopted by Clint Barton himself. As Ronin, Clint became a figure of dread to his adversaries, further enhancing the persona’s notoriety. The Ronin character even made a significant impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, providing Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye with a darker, more ruthless facet previously unseen.
Charli Ramsey, or Charli Hawks Eye, made their debut in 2024’s Ultimates #5, where they were depicted retrieving the suit, equipment, and messages intended for Clint Barton by Tony Stark. When Barton opted to forego the opportunity to fulfill his heroic destiny, Charli stepped up to embrace it. Since then, Charli has navigated their involvement with Tony Stark’s Ultimates, transforming into a hero and mending prior tensions with teammates like Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, thereby increasing their value to the Ultimates team.
The official solicitation for Ultimate Hawkeye #1 reveals, “ULTIMATE HAWKEYE TARGETS THE MAKER! Spinning out of THE ULTIMATES, breakout hit character HAWKEYE embarks on a covert solo operation that will significantly influence the future of the Ultimate Universe!” While details are limited, it is widely recognized that Ultimate Hawkeye will pave the way for the forthcoming Ultimate Endgame. The anticipation surrounding this release has reached considerable levels, further fueled by the unveiling of the complete lineup of variant covers. Taboo, the writer behind Ultimate Hawkeye, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s an honor to bring Good Medicine with this ULTIMATE HAWKEYE one-shot!” He added, “Writing another book for Marvel allows me to channel my creativity and bring positivity along with action-packed storytelling to the world. This book is dedicated to my Indigenous relative Jeffrey Veregge.”
