Date:

The upcoming adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s classic horror story, The Thing on the Doorstep, by Simon Birks and Willi Roberts presents a significant opportunity for collectors and fans of the genre. Set to debut from Image Comics in February 2026, this five-issue mini-series not only honors Lovecraft’s legacy but also emphasizes the enduring appeal of the Cthulhu Mythos in contemporary storytelling.

HP Lovecraft

The Thing on the Doorstep is a renowned horror short story crafted by H. P. Lovecraft in August 1933, later published in the January 1937 issue of Weird Tales. The narrative unfolds through the perspective of Daniel Upton, who confesses to a chilling act of violence against his lifelong friend Edward Derby, despite his protests of innocence. As the plot develops, Upton reveals Derby’s fascination with the occult from a young age and hints at a sinister control exerted by Derby’s deceased father-in-law over his wife.

Image Comics will roll out the first issue on February 11, 2026, featuring 32 pages of captivating horror, priced at $3.99. This mini-series is positioned under the Crime & Mystery, Horror, Adaptations genres and promises to explore the fraught relationship between Upton and Derby, setting the stage for a compelling examination of mental control and supernatural dread.

Written by award-winning writer Simon Birks (known for his works like The Shadow Over Innsmouth), and illustrated by Willi Roberts, this adaptation is poised to attract not only Lovecraft aficionados but also collectors keen on rare and limited editions. Birks’ previous successful adaptations have heightened expectations for this new series, which aims to bring Lovecraft’s haunting narrative into the visual medium of comics.

Readers can anticipate a landscape of horror that dwells on the psychological rather than the merely horrific, delving into what drives a friend to turn against another. THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP #1 (OF 5) serves as a reminder of Lovecraft’s profound influence on the horror genre and its relevance in today’s collector landscape.
