The announcement of a film adaptation of Geoff Johns’ ‘Redcoat’ marks a significant moment in the intersection of comics and cinematic storytelling, with potential ripple effects for collectors and retailers alike.

Per Deadline, Atlas Entertainment and Ghost Machine will collaborate to bring the comic book Redcoat to the big screen. Released in 2024, the comic quickly sold out and has maintained strong sales through both Ghost Machine and Image Comics. Geoff Johns will pen the film’s script, although a release date has yet to be announced.
Deadline has also provided a synopsis of Redcoat: “After a British deserter mistakenly gains immortality during the American Revolution, he is forced to face his cowardly past and fight against a sinister plot to destroy America.” Filled with the historical action fans expect from epic narratives, Redcoat promises to reshape perceptions of American history by exploring the story of an uncelebrated hero. The comic’s artwork is crafted by Bryan Hitch (The Ultimates), colored by Brad Anderson, and lettered by Rob Leigh. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner from Atlas Entertainment will produce the project, with Roven notably involved in productions like Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Roven also reflected on his long-standing relationship with Johns, stating, “I have known Geoff Johns for many years and in some cases had a front row seat to his excellent work in the DC world. The collaboration between Johns and Hitch has resulted in beloved comics that are now top-selling fan favorites. Redcoat offers innovative content with great potential to become a major cinematic endeavor,” he explained.
