Dave Franco has not completely dismissed the prospect of taking on the role of Luigi Mangione in a possible future biopic.
During a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live, a fan inquired if Franco would accept the role if offered. The actor revealed that he has yet to be approached regarding a project focused on Mangione, but the interest from fans has been significant.
“Oh, how do I answer this? Um, no one has approached me about it yet, I’ll say that. This is something that more people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened!” Franco explained.
However, he did not rule out the opportunity to portray the individual implicated in the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last December. “So let’s just say I’m open if it’s the right people, and let’s leave it at that,” he added.
At the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Franco mentioned that he had “never received more texts in my life about anything” when asked about the comparisons made between himself and Mangione.
He reiterated, however, that no formal offers have been made, stating, “No, no official offers.” His wife and Together co-star Alison Brie also commented that she did not believe there had been any official engagement for him to star as Mangione.
Luigi Mangione was arrested on December 9 and charged with murder and other offenses; he has pleaded not guilty. The increasing public interest surrounding this case has even led to discussions of a musical and various documentaries exploring the events.
In related developments, Mangione was recently relocated to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, the same facility that houses notable figures such as Sean “Diddy” Combs. This aspect inspired Luigi: The Musical, a satire reflecting on their shared circumstances.
