Josh Brolin and Julia Garner Clash in ‘Weapons’ But Bond Off-Screen

Date:

Josh Brolin and Julia Garner share an extensive circle of mutual friends, which facilitated their collaboration in Zach Cregger’s Weapons. As their acquaintances consistently touted the virtues of their compatibility, Brolin admitted, “I began to feel apprehensive, worrying that if it didn’t pan out, I’d be bound to someone simply because others insisted we’d hit it off.”

The response was unequivocal: they bonded seamlessly.

“We just hit it off immediately,” Brolin remarked appreciatively. “Like immediate cellular, sibling dynamics.”

Arriving on Cregger’s set in Atlanta, the camaraderie was palpable despite the tumultuous relationship their on-screen characters navigate. Garner portrays Justine Gandy, a teacher who awakens to discover that 17 of her 18 students mysteriously vanished at 2:17 a.m. Brolin embodies Archer Graff, a distraught father hell-bent on locating his missing child, suspicious of Gandy’s involvement.

Their on-screen intensity is evident from the trailers, yet the atmosphere off-stage was amicable. “We often spent time together, which is rare,” Brolin noted of his co-star, who also shares a connection with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he portrayed Thanos in the Avengers franchise while she plays Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. “I typically value my own space and she does as well, but we really enjoyed each other’s company.”

Garner echoed the sentiment, expressing profound appreciation for Brolin. “Working with him was absolutely delightful. We laughed and giggled every day on set. He is one of my favorite actors, and getting to know him as a person was an incredible experience. His presence as an actor is remarkable, making our collaboration truly special.”

Cregger commended both actors as exceptional talents, emphasizing their versatility. “They are predominantly dramatic actors who excel in comedy, allowing them to engage in the project’s tonal nuances,” he clarified. “Talent in the horror genre can be hard to attract, so I feel very fortunate to have had this cast.”

Joining Brolin and Garner are Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, June Diane Raphael, Luke Speakman, Benedict Wong, Clayton Ferris, Toby Huss, and Whitmer Thomas. Weapons is slated for release on August 8.
